Grape Varietal: Petite Sirah
Ravenswood has a long, storied history with Petite Sirah. Planted by California's earliest winemakers, the varietal was traditionally used as a blending grape. Although Petite Sirah thrived, it fell out of popularity after Prohibition and was rarely given a chance to stand on its own as a varietal. Joel Peterson began experimenting with the grape in 1976 and with the 2006 vintage he debuted the Vintners Blend Petite Sirah to rave reviews. This Vintners Blend Petite Sirah is full-bodied and powerful with black fruit, cherry, plum, and notes of chocolate. Well-structured tannins will allow for aging, but the wine's concentrated fruit flavors and mouth-filling palate make it an ideal wine for enjoying now. Ravenswood Petite Sirah is delicious for everyday drinking.
