Penedès | Penedes Wine Region

This region has been making wine for centuries, but it was Miguel Torres that really put in the map. In the past, this region was known as second best region in Spain, after Rioja. It was classified as a DO in 1991 and has been progressing ever since to achieve the top spot in Spain. This region is one of the oldest in all of Europe and is where the famous Cava comes from (Cava has its own DO now) and offers everything from refreshing white wines to oak aged, award winning reds. The most popular grapes planted are Garnacha, Tempranillo, Carinera and Cabernet Sauvignon. Since Penedes is located in the region of Catalonia, it has a huge presence of the mediterranean and most vineyards are planted on steep hills. Top 3 wineries in this region are: Bodegas Torres, Jean Leon and Pinord.
