Considered by many the rock star brother of Ribera del Duero, as they make the same style of wines, but the Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) that grows here is darker, stronger skinned and can produce wines so concentrated and full of fruit, they will leave you in wine heaven. Located in province of Zamora, Toro has quickly became extremely popular around the world. Wine makers from all corners of Spain and the world have been trying to invest in some land here for the last couple of years, but few can get in, as the real estate is only for the wealthy. However this wine region is not new, the village of Toro is extremely old and the wine that Christopher Columbus drank on his boats was from Toro. This wine region was classified as a DO in 1987 and will probably be one of the best quality wine regions in Spain within the next 10 years. Top 3 wineries in this region are: Bodegas Numanthia-Termes, Bodegas San Roman and Bodegas Pintia.
