This wine region located in the province of Zamora is making some of the best tempranillo based wines in Spain. They use a tempranillo clone called "Tinta de Toro" from old vines, and are making wines with deep concentration, plenty of fresh fruit, and optimal balance. Toro is considered the rock star brother of Ribera del Duero, as it can make some amazingly full bodied wines. Toro was classified as DO status in 1987 and will soon reach DOC status, as it offers some of the highest quality guidelines in the world.
